Kamloops School of the Arts
While waiting for my entry to the 2021 entry of the Bachelor of Education at TRU, I had the wonderful opportunity to volunteer at the Kamloops School of the Arts. I spent about three days a week driving from Shuswap and back to Assistant coach Volleyball, help with Basketball and Soccer, and take on lunchtime supervision in the classrooms, and outside of them. This was an incredibly reassuring experience, as it cemented that I love what I do, and gave me an excellent alley to hone in and focus on aspects such as volleyball, and primary education work when I would enter the BEd program. I would continue to volunteer for KSA as the assistant volleyball coach throughout my BEd degree.
Gallery 7 Theatre/Fraser Valley Stage
Perhaps my most memorable several years of volunteering was the 16 plays I took part in, within high school, university, and the community. I took part in many capacities including as an actor, a stage manager, running crew, an operator, a designer and as a director. The many skills that I learned throughout these multitudes of job were all on my own time, and were incredible experiences in networking, learning about myself and my abilities, and chores in organization. All of these were incredibly memorable experiences, and had me working and managing relations with all ages in the community.
Abbotsford Heat Hockey
Yes, this is an image of a Calgary Flames game, to which the Heat were a farm team in my city of Abbotsford. Unfortunately I do not have any photos of the Heat at this time, but I list them as they were my first volunteer experience in high school as an usher to middle school students attending a matinee game. This would be one of my first experience working with kids. I would branch on to peer tutor middle school P.E. in my grade 12 year continuing along my path to helping students at a young age. The ushering experience was eye opening to have to reinforce hockey etiquette to students who often didn’t know not to leave their seats during the game itself.
